Happy Birthday USA!

I am so glad to live in the U.S.A. i am grateful for freedom. This July fourth is more memorable to me because I get it--independence day is awesome.

As a citizen of the United States, I have great independence. As the preamble to the Declaration of Independence states, I have certain unalienable rights; "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

I have revisited this document by reading the Doris Kearns Goodwin book, Team of Rivals which tells the story of Abraham Lincoln's cabinet from the Republican Convention to Abraham Lincoln's assasination and death. President Lincoln referred to the Declaration of Independence numerous times in his life as a compass for his thoughts, policies, and points of conviction.

So, as I celebrate Independence Day today--I shout, "Happy Birthday U.S.A.! I can enjoy my life, thank God for the liberty that I have been given, and to pursue happiness for myself and for my fellowman. In fact, I get to offer a cold drink of water to my neighbor as a means of expressing my homage to God for the freedoms that I have been provided here in the United States. So, if you are planning to go to the Wooster, Ohio fireworks; look for me. I will be handing out free cold drinks near the Kinney building. Say hi, when you see me.
