Over the past two weeks our church is conducting a teaching series on the unlikely heroes from the Bible. Both Sunday messages prompted me to reaffirm my commitment to follow God. It was like I was surfing and the big waves were coming and I felt like I needed a reminder to take my eyes off the giant waves and onto the goal--to trust in God.
Two weeks ago the challenge was to identify what giants you face in your life. My giant was fear--fear that my house will not sell which hinders my family from moving to Wooster, Ohio. In response, I chose to keep trusting in God.
I choose to keep trusting in God despite only one house selling in our price range and with the same offerings in the past three months. I choose to keep trusting in God even when my feelings frequently fluctuate between panic, elation, frustration, and sadness. I choose to keep trusting in God even if we have to wait for God's timing. I choose to believe in God.
This past Sunday the challenge was to reaffirm your commitment to follow God. Using the bible character, Elijah (I Kings 18:16-39), I was confronted to reflect on my life. As a father, I am the lead shepherd of my family. So I resolved to send a message about my life everyday to my children during this whole house selling adventure. I have tried to be balanced in my prayers, to reveal how I can still trust God even when my fears, anger, and sadness may almost overwhelm me. I still choose to be fully devoted to Him!
God's truth is real! It impacts my life! It can influence your life so that you can more than handle what life dishes out. You can resolve to follow God and start a new life. You can determine to remain faithful to God and continue your journey following God. You can make it. You can experience God in real life like me. In fact, Pastor Bob ended his talk by stating that Elijah was a man just like us (James 5:17).
So, this morning my wife called to give me a prayer request. A potential buyer is asking our realtor more questions about the house. So ask God to show His great power by selling our house. I'll keep you posted.
Likewise, I wonder how you are experiencing God's influence in your life today. Please make a comment and let me know you are listening.
