Hiding in baggage

photo by squeakymarmot

In my journey reading through the Bible I came across the story of Saul. In I Samuel 10, God calls Saul to serve as king over Israel. God allows the people of Israel to select a human king rather than reaffirm God as their King.

Saul is chosen. He get three confirming signs. But he is not ready.

When all the people of Israel gather to place Saul as king over the people, he is found hiding in the baggage (I Samuel 10:22). He hides from this responsibility. He forgot what God told him through Samuel the prophet of God, "Whatever job you're given to do, do it. God is with you! (verse 7)"

You can feel cowardly in your walk with God, but God can still use you for His glory. You can be hiding underneath the luggage. But God knows where you are at and can find you to step up to the responsibility of living for Him. You can have fear in your heart and not respond well at first. However, God will help you. He is with you.

The referenced ezine article is one to make more practical the challenge of overcoming paralyzing fear. God gave us the capacity for fear. Fear is a basic emotion. But you can overcome it with God's help. Michael Lee gives advice on what you can do as a person to combat fear. The Bible gives help on how God can help you combat your fears.

Isaiah 41:10 says,
"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

So don't despair or beat yourself up for displaying cowardice occassionally. Yield yourself to God. He will help you take courage. He can empower you to be strong. He can help you step up to face any great endeavor that He has presented in your life. Keep believing in Him. You will discover God at work in your life. So don't give up or blame yourself for an occassional missed opportunity. God can still use you even when you are hiding behind baggage. He still loves you.

Hope for your journey,

Pastor D
