Save people serve people--Native New Life church develops more leaders for Christ

This month I received an update from Arnold & Bessie Betoney serving with Native New Life Church in the Southwest USA helping Native American churches grow.  Grace Church partners with the Betoney's to assist in developing leaders among Native American church planters.

The Betoney's are making a transition from the city (Albuquerque, NM) back to the reservation (Red Lake, AZ). The purpose of Native New Life Church is to develop more followers of Jesus Christ and to nurture young Navajo church leaders.  This move offers them more direct availability to the numerous emerging young Native American pastors leading churches in Arizona and New Mexico.

Elephants Feet Rock Formation near Red Lake, AZ
In addition, Arnold leverages his training in counseling to help guide Native Americans and other people to choose Christ as they struggle to recover from substance abuse. Pastor Arnold teaches counseling classes and leads a 90-day program at the Christian Discipleship Center in Cortez, CO.

Would you please pray with them right now? Offer a short prayer for one of their requests.

Please pray for the Betoney's:
  • Ask God to help their transition from Albuquerque to Red Lake.
  • Ask  the Holy Spirit to facilitate the healing from substance abuse experienced by Native Americans and their families
  • Ask the Lord to give great health to the Betoney family
  • Ask God to encourage Arnold and Bessie as they develop fully devoted followers of Christ.

If you'd like more information about praying or giving, then please contact Arrnold Betoney via email at abetoney@juno.com to receive their updates. Or visit Arnold's Facebook page.

Saved People Serve People--Meeting spiritual needs in his hometown, in Germany

Rainer & Susanne Ehmann

Email rtehmann@t-online.de
Place of Ministry: Stuttgart, Germany
Sending Agency: Encompass

Our Missionary Partner: Rainer and Susanna Ehmann are German Nationals who live in Stuttgart, Germany. They lead a Grace Brethren Church in Stuttgart. Susanna works part-time in the community at a health clinic. She shares Christ at work with her colleagues.

Motorcycle enthusiasts

God called them to develop fully devoted followers of Christ in their hometown of Stuttgart.  The church meets in a Center for special needs people. Many doors have opened as they serve the caregivers and the supervisors at the Center.  In the community, those with physical and mental challenges are neglected. So, extending God's love to the least and forgotten has been fruitful.

Their Mission: Rainer and Susanna thank us for our prayers and support.  They are always so grateful for what we do for them.  Germany is 2.9% evangelical; those who study missions believe that at least 5% is necessary to have impact on the population as a whole.  Religion has started to decline in Germany.

Stuttgart, Germany
You can read about how God is working in Germany with Encompass.   If you want more information, please contact Rainer via email so you can be added to his email list and to learn more about their ministry in Stuttgart, German. When you give to Grace Church, part of your gifts go to support the ministry of Rainer and Susanna in Stuttgart, Germany.

How to Be Involved

PRAY: Pray for Rainer and Susanna as they lead the church team to equip believers to serve neighbors and family. May God oversee the development of the church team.  Ask God to give Rainer and Susanna strength in the Lord to develop fully devoted followers of Christ in Stuttgart.  Ask the Lord to help them "make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3)."

ENCOURAGE: Rainer's birthday is May 13. Susanne's birthday is January 19.  Anniversary is June 25, 1982.

Books pastors are reading from Central Focus Retreat

photo courtesy of Tom T Flickr Creative Commons
During lunch on Tue Oct 12 at the Central Focus retreat I asked Pastor Terry Hofecker and Pastor Tony Webb what books they were reading or recently read.  Here is their "off-the-top-of-their-head" list:
  • "Tangible Kingdom" by Hugh Halter & Matt Smay. View a video and other resources at missio.ushttp://missio.us/
  • "Tangible Kingdom" workbook was highly recommended if you thinking of starting a new ministry to young adults.
  • "Church in the Making" by Ben Arment
  • "Transformational Church" by Thom Rainer & Ed Stetzer. Read a snippet here.
  • "Viral Churches" by Ed Stetzer
  • "AND: The Scattered and Gathered Church" by Hugh Halter & Matt Smay
I find it helpful to ask others what they are reading so that I may keep on learning and growing.
